I was part of a large team of model makers working on a famous Japanese superhero series.
This was a fun time. We were working fast to create many monsters and models for the series. One task given to me was to rebuild the Ultraman helmet because it didn’t fit the actor. I was then his onset dresser.
This was a Mars lander that gets attacked by a monster... as they do. It was a simple kit bash job.
The lander is attacked and explodes and so I built a quick fragile copy. It did not have to be a perfect match. When loaded with explosives, I carefully glued it together ready for the take. It was perfectly safe.
Another sequence was a hanger with an alien ship crashing out through the roof. This was a fragile breakaway section in the model hanger. It was shot from inside, upside down dropping a model through it.
Many buildings were made. This one had a monster stomp down on the front of it. All the street level was fragile breakaway backed with pyro. The weighted monster leg was dropped from above.
The model set up for the shot. The foot was accidentally dropped smashing a lot of the model. I had to work through the lunch break to fix it as best as I could in the short time. It looked OK in the shot.
I put a lot of kit aircraft together some with firing missiles from an air cannon. Also this large scale missile with working flame for close up shots.
Another selection of the many models we all put together.
